CEO Foreword
It is with great pride that I present this annual report, highlighting how safety, performance and sustainability converge at skeyes. In a context of growing traffic and increasing complexity, we delivered exceptional safety results, strong operational performance and meaningful progress in terms of sustainability, demonstrating that responsible growth is not just an ambition, but a reality.
Safety Comes First
In line with previous years, safety was once again a key priority for skeyes. This is not just a slogan, it is our daily mission. Safety never happens by chance. It requires attention, expertise, cooperation and discipline. Every single day.
2025 was an exceptional year in that respect. For the fifth consecutive year, no serious incidents (Category A) were recorded. In addition, we ended the year without any Category B incidents (major incidents): a true clean sheet. It is only the second time in our history, after 2016, that we have achieved this result. A remarkable performance at the highest possible safety level.
This achievement is no coincidence. It is the joint effort of our air traffic controllers, technicians and all support services, who apply their expertise day in and day out to ensure aviation safety. Our Just Culture policy plays a crucial role in this regard. It encourages colleagues to report incidents and errors so that we can learn from them and continuously improve our operations. After all, safety does not mean that there are no risks, but that we recognise and address them in good time.
I would therefore like to expressly thank all skeyes employees for their professionalism, vigilance and commitment. Their dedication, sense of responsibility and teamwork make this exceptional safety performance possible. They are the backbone of our organisation.
Even in unexpected situations, our teams remained professional. During the system outage in February, they acted quickly and carefully so that operations could resume safely and quickly. The same professionalism was demonstrated in November, when drones were detected flying over Belgian airports. Operational safety was maintained at all times, while every effort was made to minimise the impact on air traffic.
More Traffic, Strong Performance
In 2025, skeyes handled 1,035,084 aircraft movements, a 4% increase compared to the previous year. On average, our controllers managed 2,743 movements per day at the airports and airspace under our responsibility. At the same time, aviation continued its recovery after the slump caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite this steady growth in an increasingly busy European airspace, where air navigation service providers in several neighbouring countries faced significant capacity challenges, our operations remained highly efficient. The average en-route delay was only 0.08 minutes per flight movement. This result far exceeds the agreed performance target and ranks among the best in Europe. These figures in this annual report clearly demonstrate that safety and efficiency can go hand in hand.
Sustainability Is Our Responsibility
In addition to safety, we are actively committed to more sustainable aviation. In 2025, skeyes became the first air navigation service provider in the world to obtain the GreenATM Level 4 accreditation. This international recognition confirms our ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of air traffic and underlines our clear commitment.
We have made progress in several areas, including airspace management, infrastructure and mobility. Together with airlines, we are working on more efficient flight routes to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. In addition, steeper approach procedures will help to reduce noise impact for local communities.
We are also making progress in the field of green energy. For example, we are investing in sustainable energy solutions, including the planned construction of a solar panel park on our site.
Investing in the Future
Our solid financial position gives us the necessary scope to continue investing in the future in a targeted manner. We are preparing to upgrade our air traffic management system, with a modern NextGen solution that will be deployed from 2028 onwards. Together with our partner, the Ministry of Defence, we are working on further integrating civil and military air traffic control into a single integrated system. In this context, the Ministry of Defence signed a memorandum of understanding that formally establishes this cooperation and our shared ambitions.
The Digital Tower Centre in Namur is also nearing completion. This project is an important milestone and will modernise our operations in an innovative way. We are therefore looking forward to its operational deployment.
In 2025, our organisation grew to 1,005 employees. Every colleague contributes to the same objective: ensuring a safe, efficient and sustainable Belgian airspace.
Paving the way to the safest and most sustainable skies Paving the way to the safest and most sustainable skies is more than just a title. It is our daily commitment. Thanks to the professionalism and dedication of our employees, we continue to build an airspace where safety always comes first — today and in the future.
